Petra 2017 Clutch Update - Eggs Cut @ Day 63 (2015 Female Bumblebee Ball Python)
Petra having Laid 4 eggs on May 10th 2017, we were left with 3 when one of the eggs started rotting roughly after the first month. We think that the egg may have unfortunately been rotated and suffocated just prior to being placed in the incubator. After 2 long months of waiting and 2 power outages later, we finally reached the end of a normal incubating period. In order to give the babies their best chance, and after much research and consulting with our friends at Kootenay ball Pythons, it was concluded that it was time to cut open the eggs. Now that is not something we normally do here at Phil's Noodle Pit, but given the unusual circumstances, we were left with little choice. The deecision was made to cut the egg because the eggs were a bit undersized, from an undersized (and surprise) female and well over the average incubation period. Rebecca from Kootenay Ball Pythons expertly made the cuts to the eggs and the babies were soon visualized. At the time of the picture, all 3 remaining babies are alive and well, not injured from the cutting of the eggs and not quite ready to pip yet. After a bit more research from the original owner, Petra, our 2015 Female Bumblebee Ball Python may have been accidentally bred with a Blue Eyed Lucy, producing this clutch of likely Lesser Bee Babies, but only time will tell.
